IT’S NOT MY AREA OF EXPERTISE, SO I’M GOING TO DEFER TO MICHELLE FOSS, WHO’S BEEN WITH US ALL MORNING. MICHELLE FLOWERS, BIRDS, OTHER THINGS PEOPLE CAN SEE ON THIS HIKE. WHAT ARE THE DETAILS OF THE EVENT TODAY? YEAH, SO FROM 1 TO 3, YOU CAN COME ON A GUIDED HIKE TO SEE WHAT’S POPPING AND SPRING WITH ONE OF OUR NATURALIST EDUCATORS. SO IN ADDITION TO THOSE THINGS, YOU MENTIONED, THERE ARE OTHER SIGNS OF ANIMALS AWAKENING IN THE SPRING. SO KEEP AN EYE OUT. IT’LL BE IT’LL BE A FUN TIME. SO WITH OUR PRESCRIBED FIRE, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR TOOLS FOR LAND MANAGEMENT, IT HELPS KEEP THE OAK WOODLAND COMPLEX HERE HEALTHY. SO WITHOUT TOOLS LIKE THE FIRE, WE’RE NOT GOING TO HAVE AS MANY WILDFLOWERS TO SEE. WHAT DO PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW? WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT AS THEY HEAD OUT HERE? YEAH. Following controlled burn, Fontenelle Forest prepares for changing of the seasons
Fontenelle Forest is starting up spring events with the Early Spring Discoveries Nature Hike Saturday afternoon.The event comes on the heels of the park's wildland firefighting crew performing a prescribed burn to take care of the park and prepare it for visitors as the seasons change.Weather permitting, the crew hopes to perform another prescribed burn this week. It's an effective tool to control invasive plants and recycle nutrients, among other things.The nature hike is a chance for people to see early spring migrant birds, blooming flora and fungi and some of the smoldering still going on from the controlled burn.The event runs from 1 to 3 p.m.Learn more about the park and its events by following this link.
