Stabbed For Stealing: Man Accused Of Killing Victim In Bellerose Village, Police Say

A Long Island man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing and killing another person attempting to steal his tire rims, police said.

Jacob Alvarenga Mejia, aged 28, of Bellerose Village, was arrested on Thursday, May 25 for allegedly stabbing and killing a man who he caught trying to steal his car tires, police said.

The incident occurred on Thursday, May 25 at 8 a.m. in Bellerose Village, Nassau County Police reported.

Jacob Alvarenga Mejia, aged 28, was inside his home when he allegedly saw three men attempting to steal the tire rims and wheels from his 2003 Toyota Highlander.

With a large kitchen knife, Mejia, a resident of of Bellerose Village, walked outside and began to stab 22-year-old Luis Pena in the torso multiple times.

The three subjects fled the scene, taking the injured Pena to a New York City hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital by a physician.

Mejia was placed under arrest without incident and is charged with:

  • Manslaughter
  • Assault

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, May 26 at First District Court.
