Belle Vernon woman suspected of DUI in crash that sent kids to the hospital
A woman has been arrested after a crash injured two children in Elizabeth Township Thursday afternoon. Kristi Assenti of Belle Vernon is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, said Elizabeth Township chief of police, Kenneth Honick. Police were dispatched to a crash into a small bridge in the 800 block of McKeesport Road, Honick said. Officers found two children, ages 4 and 8, who had been injured. Both victims are children of the arrested driver.Honick says neither child was wearing a seatbelt. The 8-year-old, who was seated in the front seat of the vehicle, struck the front windshield in the crash. The 4-year-old hit the rear of the front passenger seat and suffered a head injury. Both children were taken to UPMC Children's Hospital by ambulance. Honick says both are reported stable at this time.
