Magic of Science Fair and Family Festival planned for Saturday at Harford Community College

FRANCHETTI HAS A PREVIEW. ALONG THE BUSH RIVER IN BELL CAMP, RIGHT NEXT TO THE POST OFFICE IS DISCOVERY CENTER. AT WATER’S EDGE. THIS PLACE IS AN EXCITING PLACE. IT’S A STEM BASED PLACE WHERE WE WANT KIDS TO COME AND GET EXCITED ABOUT SCIENCE. THE PREVIEW CENTER IS EXPECTED TO OPEN IN SEPTEMBER TO DO EXACTLY WHAT THE NAME SAYS. GIVE PEOPLE A PREVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT ONCE DISCOVERY CENTER AT WATER’S EDGE TAKES OVER THE ENTIRE BUILDING AND THEN EVENTUALLY EXPANDS IN ORDER TO GROW THE STEM WORKFORCE OF THE FUTURE. THE BIG PLAN IS TO GET ABOUT 30,000FT WORTH OF FACILITY HERE RIGHT ON THIS SITE, WHERE WE CAN HAVE VERTICAL SPACE, HORIZONTAL SPACE TO DO SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING AND THINGS OF ALL TYPES FOR LEARNERS OF ALL AGES. THE OTHER TWO PARTS OF THIS ARE TO BRING THE TECHNOLOGY THAT’S BEING WORKED AT THE PROVING GROUND INTO HERE SO PEOPLE COULD SEE AND ALSO TO TALK ABOUT THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE THAT’S HAPPENED AT THE PROVING GROUND OVER THE LAST 100 YEARS. AND THIS SATURDAY AT HARFORD COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISCOVERY CENTER AT WATER’S EDGE IS HOSTING A MAGIC OF SCIENCE, FAIR AND FAMILY FESTIVAL. LAST YEAR WAS THE FIRST YEAR WE HELD IT. IT RAINED AND WE STILL HAD 2000 PEOPLE SHOW UP. AND, YOU KNOW, IT REALLY TOLD US PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY FOR THIS KIND OF THING. THERE ARE ROBOTS, DRONES, KINETIC SAND PLAY. WE’VE GOT CARNIVAL GAMES AND YOU’LL GET TO SEE SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES. THE PREVIEW CENTER WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE FOR VISITORS ONCE THEY OPEN EVENTS ON SATURDAY, RUN FROM EIGHT UNTIL FOUR IN HARFORD COUNTY.

Children of all ages are invited to a free science fair this weekend in Harford County hosted by an organization looking to grow the STEM workforce of the future.Along the Bush River in Belcamp, right next to the post office, sits the Discovery Center at Water's Edge."This place is an exciting place. It's a STEM-based place where we want kids to come and get excited about science," said Charlie Nietubicz, president of Discovery Center at Water's Edge.The preview center is expected to open in September to do exactly what the name says, give people a preview of what to expect once Discovery Center at Water's Edge takes over the entire building and eventually expands to grow the STEM workforce of the future."The big plan is to get about 30,000 square feet of facility here on this site, or we can have vertical space, horizontal space to do science and engineering for learners of all ages," said Tim McNamara, the facilities manager."The other two parts of this are to bring the technology that's being worked on at the (Aberdeen Pproving Ground) into here, so that people can see and also talk about the history of science that's happened to the proving ground in the one last 100 years," Nietubicz said. The center is hosting a Magic of Science Fair and Family Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Harford Community College."Last year was the first year we held it, (and) It rained, and we still had 2,000 people show up. It really told us people are hungry for this kind of thing," said Joan Michel, a program consultant. "There are robots, drones, kinetic sand play. We have carnival games."People will get to see some of the activities that will be at the preview center once it opens.
