GreenDrop donation center eases process to collect for clothes, household items in Bel Air
There's a new place to drop off gently used clothes and household items in Harford County.
GreenDrop opened its first brick-and-mortar donation site earlier this month in Bel Air.
From old clothes, to shoes, to household items, GreenDrop is happy to take hand-me-downs. People can usually spot the organization in its green trailers, and now, it's first Maryland brick-and-mortar location is open for donations right in the heart of Bel Air.
"It gives the community an easy way to donate their extra items around the house right here in the heart of town. So, it's a very high-traffic area," said Jason Krieger, director of GreenDrop operations.
Dropping off donations at GreenDrop is super easy: People can do it right from their car by pulling up and handing the donations to an attendant. GreenDrop will send the donor a tax receipt via email.
Even after people leave, their donations have a lasting impact. It helps the environment by keeping items out of landfills and helps to generate funding for the Red Cross.
"When a donor arrives here, we are essentially collecting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross, and then we in turn buy that from the American Red Cross creating critical funds and revenue for their mission throughout the community and also nationally," Krieger said.
"They help things like disaster relief. So, if we have a tornado in the southern states, or if we have a hurricane or wildfires, those donations go to help people affected by natural disasters," said Curt Luthye, executive director of American Red Cross.
It's an easy way to turn something people see as trash into a treasure that helps those in need.
The GreenDrop Donation Center is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 204 Baltimore Pike in Bel Air. For more information on this location and other locations, visit the following website.
