EACC secures BRIDGE-AR grant to address healthcare worker shortage; potential nursing program in Wynne
FORREST CITY — East Arkansas Community College has received a four-year BRIDGE-AR grant to help address the shortage of healthcare workers statewide. BRIDGE-AR stands for Bridging Healthcare Workforce Shortages in Arkansas and will provide $702,238 to the Forrest City campus through Fiscal Year 2024-2027 from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Wynne High School welcomes back restored tornado-damaged sign
WYNNE — A sign from the old Wynne High School damaged in the March 31 tornado has received new life. The wooden “Welcome to Wynne High School” sign created by EAST student Harrison Green once hung just inside the entrance to the high school. While the sign was damaged during the tornado, coach Clark McBride was able to gather the remnants and contacted the Barton School District, which has a cabinet and furniture program.
CrossRidge Community Hospital boosts Wynne Junior High’s skilled trades program with donation
WYNNE — A donation by CrossRidge Community Hospital will help expand the skilled trades program at Wynne Junior High School. The hospital recently made a $500 donation to the 6th-grade skilled trades class. The donation was used to purchase a Cricut Maker and materials that will allow the students to be creative and personalize their woodworking projects.
Buddy Diebold, former Wynne Mayor, remembered for dedicated service to city
WYNNE — Former Wynne Mayor Buddy Diebold has died. Diebold died Wednesday, May 22, at age 85. He was born in Hickory Ridge and was a longtime resident of Wynne. Diebold served on the city council and as Mayor of the City of Wynne for one term from 1976 to 1979.
Former Yellowjacket coach Steve Lynch to be inducted into Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame
HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas — A former Wynne Yellowjacket head basketball coach will be among those who will be inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in July. Steve Lynch coached at Wynne High School from 1989 to 1994. He replaced Bill Barton as the Wynne head coach. Greg Cleveland followed Lynch at Wynne High School after Lynch resigned to become the head coach at Bergman.

Wynne School District launches summer meals program starting June 10
WYNNE — The Wynne School District has released details for its summer meals program. Meals will be provided at no cost to any child up to age 18. There will be daily pick-up for parents and guardians from Monday, June 10, through Thursday, June 27. Pick-up will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday at Wynne Intermediate School.

WYNNE — The Wynne Soccer Association has opened registration for the 2024 season. Sign-ups are open to boys and girls ages 3 through 16. There is a $50 registration fee per child.
