U.S. Forest Service: Matts Creek wildfire 100% contained
The Matts Creek wildfire first discovered on November 12th is 100% contained as of today, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Two weeks ago, the fire had spread to 15 acres of national forest land, but low humidity combined with the drought and high winds made it difficult to get under control. Officials said that the area affected reached over 11,000 acres. Heavy rains that entered the area late Monday, November 20th and continued through Tuesday night came at the perfect time, giving firefighters and the community a much needed break.
