UPDATE: Larry Webb confessed on his deathbed to shooting, killing Susan & Alex Carter, law enforcement says

UPDATE (1:09 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23): Larry Webb confessed to shooting and killing Susan and Alex Carter, who had been missing for 24 years, over financial troubles, law enforcement said at a press conference on Tuesday.

They said he shot Susan Carter because he had money go missing, and thought Susan had spent a lot of money. After an argument, he shot her, according to law enforcement.

Officials said Webb shot and killed Alex “to avoid detection for having killed Susan Carter.”

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Larry Webb died on Monday, the same day remains believed to be Susan and Alex Carter were found almost 24 years after they went missing.

Webb, who was indicted for the murder of Natasha “Alex” Carter in November 2023 and was being held at Mount Olive, suffered what police are calling “a medical episode.” Webb was later pronounced dead at Montgomery General Hospital on Monday. Later that day, remains believed to be Alex and Susan’s were found, according to State Police.

According to a press release provided by Captain R. A. Maddy with the West Virginia State Police, Webb’s medical emergency began at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

Later the same day, as part of the ongoing investigation, members of the West Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations continued excavation efforts to locate the remains of Susan and Natasha “Alex” Carter at Webb’s home.

At around 4:30 p.m., while excavating the property at 126 Kyle Lane, investigators discovered what are believed to be human remains.

Natasha “Alex” Carter and her mother, Susan Carter, were last seen on August 8, 2000. Susan was 41 years old at the time of their disappearance, and Alex was 10 years old.
