Beaverton isn’t going nuclear, but it is taking a bold step into using renewable resources to reduce energy costs.

The city’s Public Works department is in the process of upgrading pumps on Sexton Mountain — the ones that help deliver drinking water to taps in southern Beaverton — so that they can generate electricity in the process.
