PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Crews continued working through Friday to stop a 20-acre fire in Beavercreek that has burned since Thursday afternoon contained, officials said.
Level 2 evacuations still remain in effect within a quarter mile of the fire. Areas within a half mile are at a Level 1 evacuation. The latest evacuation map can be found here.
According to Clackamas Fire District, crews met with the Oregon Department of Forestry on Friday morning to strategize about how to deal with the blaze.
ODF says dozens of workers from multiple agencies are fighting the fire. A helicopter is in the air above the fire to give an aerial view and to create water drops.
Crews working the fire Thursday estimated the size to be about 30 acres, but say it has since been downsized to about 20 acres. Fire crews are also working on creating a fire line, and as of this afternoon say the fire is already 90% lined and 40% plumbed.
Jessica Prakke of ODF says their main challenge with this fire is weather.
“We’ve had dry days. Yesterday, we were getting gusts of wind that were up to 15-20 mph. Today we’re at 5-8 mph winds,” she said. “We’re hoping we don’t get those same gusts. The wind is what will keep pushing the fire forward.”
As of Friday afternoon, ODF says two homes remain threatened, but they have not seen any reported injuries.
