Softball: North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 quarterfinal recap for May 26

Alyssa Urbanski tripled and scored on a single by Anastasia Jones in the bottom of the seventh inning as fourth-seeded Bayonne earned a dramatic 1-0 walk-off win over fifth-seeded Westfield in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoffs in Bayonne.

Caitlin Gaetani tossed a three-hitter and struck out five to earn the win. She was the beneficiary of great defense as she escaped a jam in the top of the seventh after Westfield put runners on second and third with no outs.

Cameron Mercier caught a fly ball in right field and threw out the runner trying to tag from third at the plate for a thrilling double play. Jones then secured the final out, as she held onto a shallow fly ball despite a collision.

Bayonne improved to 19-10 and will face top-seeded Hunterdon Central in the semifinals.

Alex Laguna and Quinlan Doherty each singled and was hit by a pitch for Westfield (13-14).

Hunterdon Central 10, Union 0

Emily Van Cleef tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead top-seeded Hunterdon Central, No. 13 in the NJ.com Top 20, past ninth-seeded Union in Flemington.

Ceila Totaro went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs and Riley Failla had three hits and an RBI.

Hunterdon Central raised its record to 22-5 and will host fourth-seeded Bayonne in the semifinals.

Alexa Liquori and Kaiya Koonhow had hits for Union (14-9).

Hillsborough 7, Ridge 1

Clay’le Correa went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run as second-seeded Hillsborough, No. 7 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated seventh-seeded Ridge in Hillsborough.

Winning pitcher Sarah Davenport allowed six hits and struck out 14.

Kaitlyn LaMotta had two hits and scored twice for Hillsborough, which improved to 23-2 and will take on 11th-seeded J.P. Stevens in the semifinals.

Sam Rafanello singled and drove in the lone run for Ridge (13-13).
