Police are providing more details about a traffic collision Sunday in San Jose that killed a man and sent three people to the hospital.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Bayliss Avenue for a report of a vehicle collision.

A 2000 silver Chevy pickup truck, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard when it lost control at Bayliss Avenue and veered into the northbound lanes of traffic, according to police.

The truck was then involved in a broadside collision with a 2021 BMW SUV, occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female passenger, and a male juvenile passenger, which was traveling northbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard south of Bayliss Avenue.

The truck's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The BMW's occupants were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

This was San Jose's 39th traffic death of 2024, according to police.
