Sales tax revenues hold steady for May

The sales tax revenue for Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home continue to be steady for May.

According to Alma Clark, the City of Mountain Home’s Director of Finance and Treasury, the city collected a total of $608,144 in city sales tax revenue for May which is an increase of 5.9% from this time last year. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $208,276 or 8%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $512,468. This time last year, Baxter County received $507,794.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in May, which reflect area spending from the month of March.

Mountain Home received $277,231 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $274,695, it is an increase of 0.9%. The year-to-date total equals $69,323.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $46,928;

– Cotter, which received $19,151;

– Lakeview, which received $16,752;

– Salesville, which received $10,224;

– Norfork, which received $10,051;

– Briarcliff, which received $5,101; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,902.

Baxter County received $224,950 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $228,054 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $215,266 which is a monthly increase of 5.9%. The year-to-date increase is $78,090 or 8%.

Mountain Home has collected $304,072 for May from the park improvement sales tax, which is $83,682 more than needed for Bond Payment of $220,390 (the actual payment amount).

Park operation sales tax for May equals $152,036.
