Kennedy Halverson of Harper Creek is Enquirer Athlete of the Week winner for April 15-20

BATTLE CREEK - The fans have spoken.

The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Kennedy Halverson of the Harper Creek softball team.

Fans got behind Halverson to help her edge finalists Nehemiah Wert, Davis Barr and Erykah Alexander. Halverson received 61% of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she will receive an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt.

Halverson had a huge week, including hitting two home runs against Gaylord, the No. 1 team in the state in Division 2. One of those home runs was a grand slam. Overall, Halverson hit .500 for the week with 13 hits, four home runs and 19 RBI.

"Kennedy has had a tremendous start to her sophomore year. One of the best players in the area, she has surpassed her RBI and home run total from last year. She is a hard worker and has put a lot of time into her fielding, hitting and having a mindset to compete at a high level," Harper Creek softball coach Bill Burritt said.
