Online critics slam partygoer’s flippant remark after Cameron Robbins leapt from boat: ‘Bye, bye’

Online critics have slammed the “messed up” and “disrespectful” response of one of the partygoers who witnessed Cameron Robbins leap from a boat in the Bahamas before he vanished.

In a haunting video that captures the final moments before the Baton Rouge 18-year-old disappeared in the shark-infested waters, one person can be heard on camera flippantly yelling “bye, bye!”

The search for Robbins was called off two days after he jumped on a dare from the May 24 party cruise attended by several hundred fellow high school grads.

“This kid f–king jumped off! Oh my f–king God! Oh, shut the f–k up! Oh, bye, bye!” one partygoer said on the video.

“The video of Cameron Robbins shows how cruel people are,” one social media user tweeted. “The guy is in the water & there is a possible shark in the shark infested waters & people are shouting comments such as ‘bye bye’ … & other cruel comments. Shows how awful people are nowadays.”

“Now, this video makes me mad. I’m mad that the kid jumped off the boat just to complete some dare,” a Facebook user wrote, adding later in the post that the “bye bye” comment was “plain disrespectful.”

Another Facebook user called the situation “so messed up” as he noted how a teen could be heard yelling “bye bye” in the footage.

“The guy shouting ‘Bye bye’ on the video [really] gets me boiling,” an additional social media user tweeted.

At one point in the footage, onlookers on the vessel – appearing to now grasp the danger around the situation — yelled at Robbins to “grab the buoy” but the teen appears to swim in the opposite direction with people online speculating he possibly encountered a shark.

In the video, a white object is seen on the left side of the screen, but the recording is too blurry and frenetic to make out exactly what it is.

Robbins’ parents told The Post over the weekend they “appreciate” the outpouring of support for their missing son.

“We are just mourning our son right now,” Shari Robbins told The Post a day before their son’s private memorial service was held.

“We appreciate you calling. Maybe we will be able to talk more later.”

Cameron’s family remembered their lost loved one in a touching obituary.

“Cameron Crossley Robbins was a beloved grandson, son, brother and friend. He was lost at sea after being reported missing off the coast of Athol Island in the Bahamas on the evening of May 24,” they wrote.
