The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team is headed to their first National Championship Game. We’re looking at the top moments that led them to this point.

There is no question this season has been something out of a dream for LSU Tigers fans. The LSU women’s basketball team finished the season with just two losses and returned to the Final Four for the first time since 2008. With Iowa waiting for Sunday’s women’s NCAA Tournament title game, we’re reflecting on the top moments of LSU’s 2022-23 season.

The reminiscing begins with thinking back to the cluster of triple-digit-scoring games.

No. 5 – Five-straight 100-point games

After starting the season with an 88-35 exhibition win against Mississippi College, the LSU Tigers began their regular season by winning five straight games with 100+ points. We assumed the feat tied the NCAA Division I record for most consecutive games with 100 points. Ironically, some research revealed Kim Mulkey and Louisiana Tech scored 100+ points in six-straight games in the 1981-82 season. Either way, scoring 100+ points in five consecutive games is an impressive feat in men’s or women’s college basketball.

In the season’s first game, the LSU Tigers broke the program record for most points in a game with 125 versus Bellarmine. The Tigers also broke the program record for most converted free throws in a game with 44. This game also marked the first of 34 Angel Reese double-doubles, something no one could have predicted.

It’s difficult to imagine that the LSU Tigers tipped off their 2022-23 season back in November. Yet, it feels like yesterday; we wondered what kind of magic Kim Mulkey could create in her second year at LSU. Thanks to the snazzy-dressing head coach, LSU Tigers fans have a reason to be excited about basketball again.
