Emery Jones has a message for LSU's incoming freshmen

Last fall, Emery Jones — alongside his counterpart Will Campbell — accomplished something you rarely see from true freshmen, especially in the SEC: starting at offensive tackle.

While Campbell began the year as a starter on the left side, Jones quickly occupied the other job on the right and never let go of it. Now, both return this season as starters on what could be a very good line.

To any of the incoming true freshmen LSU signed in the 2023 class who may be looking to replicate Jones’ rookie campaign and see early playing time, he had one simple message, per On3: Be coachable.

“The advice that I would give is just come in and take coaching,” stated Jones. “Everybody, you’re not going to come in the best guy. You’re not going to come in like you were in high school, just throwing everybody. So just take coaching, be open to everything that they’re telling you, and get better like we’re all doing.”

Jones is certainly equipped to give advice on this topic as he managed to earn early playing time at one of the most physically demanding positions in football. Now, it looks like he wants to help the new crop of young guys do the same.
