The women’s Elite Eight tips off on Sunday with the LSU Tigers (31-2) vs. Miami Hurricanes (22-12). LSU is playing for their first Elite Eight appearance since 2008. For Miami, Sunday is their first trip to the Elite Eight in program history.

The LSU Tigers are riding high after a hard-fought win over Utah in the Sweet 16. Moreover, a special gift from Vanessa Bryant has added to their mojo.

For Miami, the dream continues. The Hurricanes finished their regular with three losses in five games and were bounced from the women’s ACC Tournament by Virginia Tech. However, Miami caught fire during March Madness and upset No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 1 Indiana, and No. 4 Villanova. The Hurricanes are the second No. 9 seed in women’s NCAA Tournament history to reach the Elite Eight.

For the LSU Tigers, the game plan remains the same. Angel Reese must be the best player on the floor and in control of the paint. Utah did an excellent job mitigating Reese’s damage in the Sweet 16, but LaDazhia Williams answered for LSU. We don’t foresee the Hurricanes slowing Reese as much, but the Tigers will again need Williams if they do. Also, LSU will rely heavily on Alexis Morris’s mid-range shooting.

A win puts the LSU Tigers back in the women’s Final Four for the first time since 2008. Either way, the Bayou Bengals’ progress in Kim Mulkey’s 2nd year leading the program is incredible.
