Parolee taken into custody following search for him in Scotlandville, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - An offender out on early parole is back in jail after he reportedly fled authorities who tried to arrest him Tuesday morning, March 21, for skipping out on his required community supervision.
Roderick Crocklem, 41, fired a shot and fled from state probation and parole officers around 3:30 a.m. in the Scotlandville area, according to the La. Department of Corrections.
A spokesman for the DOC said Crocklem was being served a warrant, issued by the Parole Board on February 7, because he failed to report to his probation and parole office following his goodtime parole release on Aug. 20, 2022, which was a condition of his community supervision.
A spokesman with EBR Schools announced all bus routes traveling to Scotlandville Middle School were temporarily suspended as police searched for a probation/parole suspect in the area near the middle school.
Crocklem was caught shortly after 7 a.m. with the help of the Baton Rouge Police Department, according to officials.
No one was significantly injured during the arrest, officials confirmed.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School System released the following statement about the incident:
According to the state department of corrections, Crocklem served a 2-and-a-half year sentence in the Department of Corrections for an attempted felon in possession of a firearm conviction in West Baton Rouge Parish.
He was released to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on May 28, 2022 for a misdemeanor simple assault charge, which was he was released from in August, officials explained.
