For Bartlesville Mayor Dale Copeland, this is especially important. He continues to ask Bartlesville residents to make small changes in their water habits as the city's water supply has dropped to almost 60% capacity.

Bartlesville had already been asking its residents to cut back on their water consumption to prevent the city from having to enforce more stringent water conservation efforts because if the city's water supply drops to 60%, the city could implement other measures to conserve water. That's why Copeland said that this challenge has come at the perfect time.

"So this water conservation challenge makes a big, big change or challenge to get people to do what we're already trying to get them to do which is conserve. It offers a fun way to get involved, get engaged, and maybe even win a prize. It's something that we feel like that as we reach these possibly critical levels, really the timing is excellent," Copeland said.

According to Copeland, while Bartlesville residnets have already done a good job conserving water to this point, he said that this gives residents another opprotunity to help out their city.

"Folks have listened. We're down around 4.2 million. It floats a little bit, but we're around 4.2 million gallons per day. So we are doing a lot better, but as the lakes continue to decline, we really need to double down I guess you would say and focus on that even more," Copeland said.

People who do make the pledge to conserve water during the month of April could potentially win some prizes. You can sign up at mywaterpledge.com
