BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Ethan Knight.

The Barrington Senior took home his second straight 55 Meter Indoor Hurdles title then helped the Eagles bring home another gold in the 4X400 Relay, points that paved the way to the first Indoor State Title in school history.

“He’s been amazing,” said Barrington Head Coach Bill Barrass. “He started off as kind of an average hurdler for us and we looked back on his times at the end of Indoor season and the gains that he’s made are just incredible. He was just, by his Sophomore year, he was really starting to develop really well and the last couple of seasons he’s been really good. But he works so hard for it. It didn’t come 100% naturally.”

The hurdles title his third Individual State gold, and his success earning him a scholarship to compete at Bucknell University. The Bison are the third winningest program in Patriot League history.

“When I went to Bucknell for the first time, I talked to the Coach and he was really into me, but he didn’t give me an offer because it was early in my Junior year,” Knight said. “I went over the Summer and he was able to give me an offer in person, so I committed there and got into the Business school. A perfect fit for me and I’ll be going there next year, and I’m really excited for it.”

Ethan would love to head to Bucknell with two more gold medals and another piece of Eagle history. A win at the Outdoor State Meet would make Barrington the first public school to take home the team title since Central in 2017.

“It’s definitely sad, I’ve been doing track here for four years but I’m excited to go to college for it,” Knight said. “I’d like to be able to go out and say that I got a State Championship for both, Indoor and Outdoor seasons and that’s what I want for my coach and my team. To be able to say as a Senior Captain, I was able to get that for the team with the help of all my teammates and for coach, that would be great.”
