Robbery of 2 Uber drivers, high-speed chase result in arrest in Barren County

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Two people are facing multiple charges after authorities say they led a high-speed chase.

According to a citation, Kentucky State Police Post 3 was contacted Monday by Franklin police in relation to a stolen vehicle that was traveling northbound on Interstate 65.

Authorities say the vehicle had a live tracker on it, which KSP dispatch was able to follow.

In addition, troopers were advised the two people occupying the vehicle had robbed two Uber drivers in Tennessee at gun point, according to authorities.

Authorities say they learned the subjects had stolen a black 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Kentucky State Police say they first observed the vehicle pass at the 47 mile marker northbound on I-65.

Troopers say they attempted to stop the vehicle near the 49 mile marker. After the vehicle pulled over, authorities say it began to speed away once the troopers exited their vehicles.

As a result, authorities say they pursued the vehicle from the 49 mile marker to the 58 mile marker at a maximum speed of 140 miles per hour.

The vehicle exited at the 58 mile marker at a high speed before striking a guardrail, according to authorities.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Dawayne Young, 22, of Nashville. Young exited the vehicle before being assisted to the ground and arrested.

The passenger, identified as Natalie Catalan, 21, of Nashville, was questioned. Authorities say Catalan told troopers she was involved in the robbery of an Uber driver with Young in Tennessee. She also told troopers they robbed the driver in order to have transportation to Michigan.

Young told troopers a gun and drugs located in the vehicle belong to him and that Catalan had nothing to do with them, according to the citation. Authorities say Young additionally said he had taken multiple Roxicodones and used cocaine earlier in the day.

Both Young and Catalan were transported to T.J. Samson Hospital for treatment.

Both remain in the Barren County Detention Center.

Young faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit, receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, first-degree criminal mischief and fugitive.

Catalan faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree criminal mischief and receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more.
