31-year-old dies in Laurel County motorcycle crash

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A 31-year-old man is dead after a three-vehicle accident in Laurel County involving a motorcycle.

According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, it happened around 1:22 p.m. on Monday on Kentucky Highway 229, approximately six miles south of London.

The sheriff’s office said that Johnathon Wyatt, 31, of Barbourville, was traveling northbound on a motorcycle on Kentucky Highway 229 when he crashed into the back of a pickup truck that had stopped for a mail carrier. After the crash, the motorcycle went into the southbound lane, hitting a truck.

Wyatt was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Kentucky Highway 229 was closed for approximately two hours, per the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

According to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 11, it happened after 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Kentucky Highway 229, just south of Benge Grocery. The road was closed in both directions and has since reopened.

The accident involved a motorcycle, according to the transportation cabinet. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office called it a “serious crash investigation.”
