Barbour County miner killed in underground accident

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Barbour County coal miner is dead after an accident underground Wednesday morning.

Cecil Barker, 62, of Philippi was killed when he was riding a mantrip which crashed while moving underground at Century Mining’s Longview Mine in Barbour County.

Barker, who had 18 years of mining experience, was one of three men on a survey crew riding in the rubber tired vehicle when it crashed.  The other two miners suffered minor injuries in the wreck . The accident is under investigation.

Governor Jim Justice announced the fatality at the end of his media briefing in Charleston and asked state residents o keep Barker’s family in their prayers.
