A pedestrian has been taken to the hospital after being hit by a car in Downtown Bangor.

The incident happened at approximately 12:20

Thursday afternoon at one of the busiest intersections in the downtown area. Bangor Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Main and Union Streets.

Sergeant Jason McAmbley of Bangor Police says a driver was making a left-hand turn from Main Street onto Union Street when they hit the pedestrian. The 35-year-old male pedestrian was seriously hurt in the accident and taken to a local hospital. Police say the driver told them they failed to see the pedestrian when making the turn.

Police closed the intersection while investigating the crash. The names of those involved have not been released.
