"We know that vandalism happens everyday," said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott when asked about the city's youth curfew van which was vandalized with volunteers inside.
"We know things happen to vehicles consistently across this world but what we won't do is highlight the extreme," insisted Mayor Scott.
According to City Hall, vandals shattered the rear window of the van as it was attempting to park.
A city spokesman says, at the time, volunteers inside were attempting to engage young people on Denham Circle in Cherry Hill.
The volunteers then retreated to the C.C. Jackson Community Center in Park Heights to debrief.
The incident happened about 11:30pm on Saturday.
"They were probably defending themselves from what they feared," said Activist Kinji Scott about the late night engagement with youth.
"Here you have someone trying to pick them up at night in a white van!" said Kinji Scott.
No one was injured during the incident.
So far, police have made no arrests.
