Commissioner Michael Harrison had a long career in law enforcement and now, he's the top cop of his department.
Prior to assuming the role of Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, Harrison was Chief of Police in New Orleans.
Now, questions linger if Harrison will soon be moving on to another department.
The Chief of Police for Washington, DC retired earlier this week, but the search for his replacement started a while ago.
According to the Washington Times, candidates from Baltimore have interviewed for the role.
FOX45 spoke with Harrison about the rumor of that candidate being him.
“I am 100 percent focused on doing the job I’m doing right here in Baltimore City," said Harrison.
Harrison not giving a yes or no answer to the question.
Law Enforcement Analyst Melisssa Pinkelton has a theory as to why.
“What that means in politician terms is that I don’t have a direct answer for you, because I don’t even know the answer myself, so until I get the answer that I’m waiting for, I’m focused on doing the job that I’m currently being paid for," said Pinkelton.
Pinkelton says the rumor, could cause uncertainty amongst the ranks.
“It can be very unsettling for the officers. “Are we gonna bring in somebody new, is this gonna get worse, can it possibly get worse," said Pinkelton.
Currently, the Baltimore Police Department is 500 officers short, as we head into the summer months.
“Regardless of what the particular, exact, statistics are from this year to last year, you can’t ignore the fact that Baltimore is down 500 officers, is having shootings every weekend, has a problem with their juveniles," said Pinkelton.
