By Sam Volz: Gervonta Davis’s coach Calvin Ford says Tank is doing well, “sitting still” in jail after being incarcerated this week after breaking his 90-day house arrest and now ending up doing the remainder behind bars.
Ford thinks it’s good for the 28-year-old Tank to be in jail because it’ll give him a chance to sit still and think. That’s true, but it’s a shame that he couldn’t do those things outside of jail.
Some boxing fans think that the reason Gervonta broke his house detention is that he’s trying to avoid fighting Devin Haney because Ford wants him to take that fight next. Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) holds all the belts at lightweight and recently defeated Vasyl Lomachenko. He’s a serious threat to Tank.
According to the Baltimore judge, Tank was supposed to stay with his trainer Ford for the entire 90-day house arrest, but instead, he purchased a beautiful 5,000 square foot $3.4 million penthouse apartment in Baltimore and was staying there as well as at a hotel. The judge somehow found out about Tank not staying with Ford, and he is now stuck doing the rest of his sentence in jail.
Ford says he’s “got a plan” for Tank Davis, but he didn’t give any hints about what that might be. If this is another bank heist-type fight against Ryan Garcia again, Ford is wasting his time because fans don’t want to see Tank fight that guy again. It wasn’t even sporting.
Fans are catching wind of the fact that Tank Davis NEVER fights the good fighters, and they’re going to lose interest if he continues to cherry-pick like he’s been doing for the last ten years.
“Tank’s doing fine. His mental is good. He’s enjoying life. He needed this. He’s fasting right now. He’s fasting right now,” said trainer Calvin Ford to MillCity Boxing about Gervonta Davis, who is in jail after breaking his house arrest.
“When I talked to him, he make me laugh. I told him, I said, ‘Yo we
got a plan. Just enjoy your peace.’ He’s so used to going [being busy]. It’s good for him, though. It gives a chance to think about stuff. Think about what you want to do, how you see your life, and how you see your career.
If Ford wants to keep Tank relevant, his “plan” needs to involve these fighters:
- Frank Martin
- Devin Haney
- Shakur Stevenson
- William Zepeda
- Vasyl Lomachenko
- Subriel Matias
It’s not good that Tank Davis is in jail, no matter how badly Ford wants to try and spin it. Jail time is NOT good.
“So right now, he’s getting in tune with yourself. No distractions around him. On the phone talking to his kids, talking to his mom,
telling people what to do. So that’s a good thing. I really like it, to tell you the truth, and I know he’s sitting still. I know he’s sitting still.
“Then when he come out, he got to do his community service. Everything is good. I sit there and say God has the best plan. It’s going to turn him into a great man. The plan the plan is working to be greatness.
“Having been here in Baltimore City, we got to keep him under wraps and whatnot. Right now, he’s got some things in front of him. Right now, he’s just sitting still. The whole thing, they just wanted him to sit still. In the second half, he starts doing his obligation to the court and then in the third half, he’ll be winding down.
“You’re gonna see what’s great happen. We got some things we got
planned you know. He’s sitting still putting stuff together for
the kids for the summer,” said Ford.
