Sahiou Kargbo, the 18-year-old Mervo student convicted of killing 43-year-old James Blue, was sentenced to 65 years in prison today.
"Today's sentence sends a clear and resounding message that in Baltimore, we value each and every life in our city and take it seriously when we lose a life to inconceivable violence," said Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates in a statement.
Blue was gunned down at his home on Walker Avenue near Loch Raven Boulevard in northeast Baltimore in January 2022.
According to charging documents, police connected the 12th-grade Mervo student to the deadly shooting with witnesses and surveillance video from the neighborhood.
Charging documents reveal Kargbo walked up to the rear of Blue's car as he sat in his vehicle and started shooting. He continued to shoot up the right passenger side of the vehicle.
When Blue got out, investigators say Kargbo then stood over Blue and continued to fire his weapon.
Kargbo's sentence for second-degree murder will come after the five-year sentence he is serving on a gun charge, according to the state's attorney's office.
