Tank Davis violates house arrest, taken into custody

By Sam Volz: Lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis was taken into police custody on Thursday for violating his 90-day house arrest. He had been under house arrest since last month.

It could be close to two months of jail time before Tank is freed and ready to resume his boxing career. That’s a good piece of time for a millionaire to spend behind bars. But it won’t be the first or the last wealthy person to go to jail for a stretch.

He’d been given the 90-day house arrest, which some fans saw as a slap on the wrist, due to a reportedly hit & run car cash in November 2020, resulting in four people hurt, one of them being a pregnant woman.

WBALTV11 reports that Tank recently purchased a massive 5,000-square-foot penthouse apartment this week in Baltimore. It’s unknown if he’d been holed up in this beauty when he violated his 90-day house arrest.

With an apartment like that, it’s difficult to imagine the former three-division world champion Gervonta willingly leaving it to violate his house detention.

Tank isn’t receiving much sympathy from boxing fans on social media, as they don’t feel bad for him, given that he avoided jail time in the first place by being given a 90-day home arrest after being sentenced for his hit & run.

It’s hard to understand why Tank violated his home arrest. Did he naively think that they wouldn’t know about it, or was this a case of him not carrying about the repercussions?

In his last fight, Tank Davis defeated Ryan Garcia by a seventh round knockout on April 22nd.  Tank hit Ryan with a body shot in round seven, causing him to go down in a delayed fashion and then being counted out on one knee.

Tank made a lot of money for the Ryan fight, so it could be that money is burning a hole in his pocket, and he just had to get out of the apartment to go spend some of it.

We’ll see if this jail term affects Tank Davis’ career. His trainer Calvin Ford had recently talked about wanting him to fight Devin Haney next, and if not him, a rematch with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.

Gervonta’s bet option for a big payday would be to set up a rematch with Ryan Garcia, but that won’t happen until Kingry gets some wins against good opposition.

Boxing fans have criticized Davis for having a weak resume and swerving talented fighters like Shakur Stevenson, Vasyl Lomachenko, Haney, and Frank Martin.
