The City's crime fight is drawing demands from City Council members who are questioning how city agencies are spending millions in revenue.
In letters to the city's four crime fighting agencies, City Councilman Eric Costello asks directors for details about staff salaries, staff openings and funding.
In a letter to Shantay Jackson, Director of the Mayor's Office for Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, Costello demands an immediate plan of attack for the expected rise in crime this summer.
"We need immediate and effective implementation of short-term strategies to enable the continued progress towards longer-term solutions," Costello wrote.
In a letter to Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, Costello acknowledges the department severe staffing shortages but wrote, "While shortages are certainly a problem, we cannot allot it to be an excuse."
Agency directors are expected to appear before the city council in the next two weeks.
