Police: 5 people shot during argument near Lexington Market in Baltimore
WITH OFFICERS LESS THAN 50 OR 60FT AWAY. AND FOR SOMEBODY TO TO TO ENACT A VERY VIOLENT BEHAVIORAL, VIOLENT ACT, YOU KNOW, IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THAT PERSON WHO IS WILLING TO DO THAT. BALTIMORE CITY POLICE COMMISSIONER MICHAEL HARRISON ADDRESSING THE LATEST ACT OF VIOLENCE ON BALTIMORE CITY STREETS AROUND 3:30 P.M. POLICE SAY THAT A GROUP OF PEOPLE WERE GATHERED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF WEST, SARATOGA AND UTAH STREETS WHEN AN ARGUMENT BEGAN BETWEEN THE SUSPECT AND SOMEONE ELSE IN THE GROUP. THAT’S WHEN THE SUSPECT PULLED OUT A GUN AND STARTED FIRING. THOSE BULLETS HIT FIVE MEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 38 AND 63. HARRISON SAYS IT HAPPENED WHILE A POLICE OFFICER WAS WAITING AT A STOPLIGHT AND THIS PATROL CAR AT THE SAME INTERSECTION. THERE WAS AN OFFICER THAT HAD BEEN HERE ALL DAY. THE OFFICER IN THE CAR RIGHT BEHIND ME WERE HERE TO RELIEVE HIM. AND WHILE AT THE RED LIGHT, THEY JUMPED RIGHT INTO ACTION AFTER FIRING THOSE SHOTS. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT RAN SOUTH ON UTAH. THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF ARREST IN JAIL AND THEY ARE NOT AFRAID OF DYING. AND WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE LIKE THAT, THEY WILL COMMIT VERY, VERY VIOLENT AND BRAZEN ACTS. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY. CORY JAMES FREQUENTLY PASSES BY THE AREA AND SAYS THAT WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO KEEP TRAGIC SITUATIONS LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING AND THEN WE NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER, YOU KNOW, JUST NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER, EACH ONE TEACH ONE. POLICE SAY THAT ONE OF THE VICTIMS ARRIVED AT A HOSPITAL IN A PRIVATE CAR AND MEDICS CARRIED THE OTHER FOUR. HARRISON SAYS THEY’RE WORKING TO CHANGE THE CULTURE OF VIOLENCE. WHAT WE HAVE TO FIND OUT NOW IS HOW DO WE GET INSIDE THE MINDS OF THE WOULD BE SHOOTER TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS ABOUT WHY THEY ARE MAKING THIS BAD DECISION. AND POLICE ARE COMBING THROUGH SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE FROM THAT AREA. THEY’RE ALSO ASKING ANYBODY WITH ANY INFORMATION TO GIVE THEM A CALL. REPORTING LIVE IN FRONT OF BALTIMORE

Police: 5 people shot during argument near Lexington Market in Baltimore
Police are searching for a suspect after five people were shot Friday afternoon near Lexington Market in Baltimore.Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said a group of people was in the 200 block of Saratoga Street around 3:30 p.m. Friday, when a man began arguing with another man.Police said officers observed citizens running in that area before investigating a discharging. They located four victims at the scene and were notified a fifth walked into an area hospital.The victims are 38, 41, 55, 58, and 63-years-old. All their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.Harrison said police were in a vehicle at the intersection of Eutaw and Saratoga streets."There was an officer that had been here all day. The officers in the car right behind me were here to relieve him. And while at the red light, they jumped right into action," he said.The commissioner said the shooting speaks to a violent culture."They are not afraid of arrest and jail, and they are not afraid of dying. And, when you have people like that, they will commit very, very violent and brazen acts," Harrison said. "It speaks to the culture that we are all working to change, the culture of violence, which is a way of thinking. And, we have to change that through consequences, but through changing people's life conditions. If we can change life conditions where they don't have to commit crimes, that's a way to do that. But there has to be consequences. But, at this point, that shooter is not afraid of being shot and or going to prison."Cory Jones frequently passes by the area, and said we all need to work together to keep tragic situations like this from happening."I think we need to help each other," he said.
