BALTIMORE — A driver in Baltimore was carjacked and assaulted in an early morning incident.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of West Fayette Street for a carjacking around 4:37 a.m.
Officers were met by the victim, who explained that he was driving westbound on Fayette Street when he was cut off by a silver sedan.
Police say two suspects armed with guns approached the suspect. The suspects then ordered the victim to exit his vehicle and assaulted him with their fists before jumping into the victim's vehicle and fleeing.
The victim refused medical treatment.
Later in the morning, around 10:50 a.m., officers were following up on this incident and spotted the wanted vehicle.
The vehicle was followed by Baltimore County Aviation, at which time, the suspect exited the vehicle and entered Carver High School.
The suspect was identified as a student and arrested in a classroom with a loaded gun, according to a letter from Carver principal Shionta Somerville.
The letter goes on to say, during the chase, he made his way to the campus, rushed into the building after school started, and attempted to hide in a classroom.
He entered in a way to avoid security.
After the school was placed on lockdown, police arrested the suspect and classes resumed as normal.

When events involving safety occur at our school, we want to make sure you’re informed.
This morning, a student was detained by police in a classroom with a loaded gun. The student began fleeing police in the city earlier in the morning. During the chase, he made his way to the campus, rushed into the building after school started, and attempted to hide in a classroom. He entered in a manner to avoid our usual security measures.
The school was immediately placed on lockdown. Police apprehended the young man a short time later, and classes resumed as normal.
While we are disappointed in the choice of the student involved, we are thankful the incident ended safely. A safe school is a responsibility shared by all of us. Also, we’ll continue to review our safety procures to keep students safe and focused on the main thing: learning and preparing for the future.
