[APPLAUSE] ASHLEY: HER FACE IS PRICELESS. JACQUELINE ROLDAN, A SENIOR AT MERVO HIGH SCHOOL, WAS ONE OF FIVE STUDENTS AWARDED A FULL RIDE FROM MCDANIEL COLLEGE. THE COLLEGE AND COLLEGE BOUND SURPRISED HER WITH THE NEWS AT SCHOOL THIS MORNING. ROLDAN CALLED THE SCHOLARSHIP LIFE CHANGING. >> JUST BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THIS FULL RIDE NOW ALLOWS ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO FOCUS MORE ON SCHOOL RATHER THAN WORRYING ABOUT MONEY AND JUST HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO WHAT I NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO SUCCEED ADD JUST BEING SO GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FOR ME. Five Baltimore City high school students were surprised Monday with a full scholarship to college.McDaniel College and the CollegeBound Foundation surprised the students with the news at their schools.One of the recipients, Jacqueline Roldan, a senior at Mergenthaler High School, called the scholarship life-changing."Just being able to be given the opportunity to have this full ride now allows me the opportunity to focus more on school rather than worrying about money and just having the opportunity to do what I need to do in order to succeed and just being so grateful for the opportunities that have been provided for me," Jacqueline said.Jacqueline said much of the credit goes to her mother, who pushed her to get to this point. She plans to major in business administration and culinary arts.The four other recipients include Envy Lemon, a student at Western High School; Evelyn Blackman and Autumn Macklin, students at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute; and Adrianna Coe, a student at Green Street Academy.The scholarships are valued at more than $180,000 each. McDaniel has partnered with the CollegeBound Foundation since 2008 to provide full-tuition scholarships to city high school students.
