In Baltimore City, a group of women are working toward their real estate dreams.
At Loyola University a ‘Shark Tank’ of sorts was organized by women in real estate for women of color to pitch their unique ideas.
Ruth Travis pitched an idea for a house where women can come when recovering from breast cancer treatment.
“Ruth’s Pink House would be a place where breast cancer survivors can come for rest and relaxation," she said.
Ruth believes your environment has everything to do with how you heal.
“I want a kitchen. I want a movie theater. I’ll probably have once a month life lessons we talk about,” she said. “I need trees and grass and a home like atmosphere," she said.
Reverend Chandra Caples Webb was up next with an idea aimed at helping feed those in Baltimore, some without a place to call home.
“I need a truck. My little car which I call the DM is constantly full and I’m running things between Baltimore City and Baltimore County,” she said.
The judges were impressed with both plans.
“We want to thank both of you for pitching. We thought both were interesting and appreciated your approach to it,” one judge said.
The winner was Ruth’s Pink House.
Her dream is now one step closer to becoming reality.
“Now I feel like the vision is coming into fruition and I’m excited. I had no one idea what I was coming to this evening,” she said.
Ruth will now have assistance with her business plan and financial advisement moving forward.
“Tonight I can go home with a little more hope that this becomes a reality, because I’ve had this vision since 2007,” she said.
