Since things aren’t going exactly as planned for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, talk has already begun about Jackson leaving Baltimore.

If he and the Ravens do part ways, the Ravens could have a surprising replacement for Jackson: Cam Newton.

NFL reporter Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports speculates that the Ravens could be interested in signing Newton if the team does decide to part ways with Lamar Jackson.

“Lamar Jackson is technically under team control, but where do he and the front office actually stand? Barring a sudden breakthrough in long-term contract talks, Jackson feels destined for a whirlwind of a 2023 season, either in Baltimore or elsewhere. Newton could function as a similarly run-heavy weapon either in relief of Jackson or in place of him as a last-gasp stopgap, even if Tyler Huntley — also a free agent — returns as well,” Benjamin wrote for CBS Sports.

The former league MVP last played for his old team the Carolina Panthers. Before then, he was the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots before Mac Jones beat him out for the starting position.

Newton could be the ideal fit for the team. His style of play mirrors Jackson and the team could sign him at a much cheaper price than Jackson, so it could be a win, win for both parties.

Either way, Newton looks like he is ready for a return, and what better place for a comeback than Baltimore.
