Just 3 weeks left in this year's general assembly as we passed Crossover Day. From Maryland 529 to cannabis regulations and city control of the Baltimore Police Department, there are still many bills to debate in the opposite chamber before sine die.
For this week's State House Spotlight, Republican Delegate Lauren Arikan and Democrat Senator Jill Carter joined FOX 45 News to weigh in on the bills that passed and the ones that did not.
"We didn't really address juvenile crime at all, which is on the rise. SB1 [Senate Bill 1] was an offense bill, frankly, that I think is unconstitutional. But I didn't see anything that was really getting at [stopping] crime from happening." Delegate Lauren C. Arikan said.
When Senator Jill Carter was asked if any of her bills moved over to the house she said, "One thing you talked about was the Nykayla Strawder bill, which is a bill that would require the police departments to file a census petition in certain incidence, which they can already could do, but we mandated it now." Carter said.
