A Baltimore father remains in jail tonight after threatening an elementary school basketball coach over his son's playing time, according to charging documents.
48-year-old Troy Spencer of Baltimore faces three counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment, according to online court records. He is also charged with possessing a firearm with a felony conviction, having a dangerous weapon on school grounds, and various other gun charges.
The confrontation happened on March 6.
According to charging documents, Spencer confronted the coaches of the basketball team at Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School over his son's lack of playing time. Spencer pulled a loaded 9mm handgun from his waistband, pointed it at the coaches and said, "You better put my son into the game," according to charging documents.
Spencer and one of the coaches got into a struggle over the gun, according to charging documents. The coaches were able to disarm Spencer, at which point he ran from the building and drove away.
Online court records show that Spencer was arrested on Wednesday. He is currently being held without bail.
Charging documents also reveal that Spencer had previous charges that would have prevented him from legally having or carrying a gun.
