A new survey of 1,200 registered Texas voters by researchers at the University of Texas found little confidence in the state power grid.

State of play: Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed said they thought it's likely the state will experience rolling or temporary blackouts this summer, per the Texas Politics Project poll out Thursday.

    • And 51% of the poll's respondents said they thought it's likely there will be a widespread failure of the electric grid this summer.

Threat level: Grid operators said last week that there's a 12% chance of rolling blackouts in August because of increased demand.

Flashback: Last summer, Texas set 10 new all-time peak demand records and Texans were asked to conserve electricity at least 11 times.

The fine print: The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.83% and was conducted May 31 to June 9, before ERCOT warned of summer outages.

Don’t like Texas’ power situation? Go try my former state, California where we had brown and blackout because (1) It was too cold (2) it was too hot (3) it rained hard (4) the wind was blowing (5) PG&E used their increased funds from jacking up rates not for infrastructure improvements but to give bonuses. We are empty nesters & the last 2 years there we paid on average $650 p/mo to power and heat a modest 3BR, 2 BA, 1483 sq ft home. Highest was $863. I’ll take Texas any day. I’m enjoying our $175 gas and electric bill thank you very much.

ERCOT and Abott don't want to join the National Grid as it is against their monopoly and making money.
