Photo: Jeremy Duda/Axios</figcaption></figure>You can get a taste of the Mediterranean in central Phoenix at <a href="https://www.dahliatapas.com/">Dahlia Tapas Tequila and Wine</a>.State of play: Dahlia opened nearly a year ago on Seventh Street just south of Oak Street in a building previously occupied by restaurants Bri and Rice Paper, the latter of which is now just a couple of doors down.<ul><li>It's the latest venture <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/phoenix/2023/06/30/new-tapas-bar-phoenix-coronado">from Audrey Corley</a>, the owner of <a href="https://www.axios.com/2023/06/30/lesbian-bars-america-2023">Boycott Bar</a> in the Melrose District.</li></ul>What we ordered: There's a lot to choose from and we tried as many things as we could.<ul><li>From the small tapas menu, we ordered the marinated olives, roasted vegetables and grilled Argentinian shrimp.</li><li>We picked the tostada trio and Spanish dates from the large tapas menu.</li><li>They've also got an ample cocktail menu that, as the restaurant's name would suggest, is heavy on tequila drinks.</li></ul>Best bites: Everything was incredible. And just because they're tapas doesn't mean the portions are small — even the olives were massive and meaty.<ul><li>My favorite was the Spanish dates, which are wrapped in bacon and filled with chorizo for a salty and savory yet somewhat sweet treat.</li><li>The chicken tinga tostada was conventional, albeit delicious, but the avocado tostada and especially the spicy harissa-glazed carrot tostada were unlike any I'd had before.</li></ul>1 big cocktail menu: My wife and I tried a few of the cocktails, but my favorite was probably the Black Dahlia, with Valencia orange tequila, Amaro Montenegro and black cherry puree. It was sweet — but not too sweet — and made a great pre-dinner drink.<ul><li>If you're feeling extravagant, they have a $70 cocktail that includes edible gold as one of its ingredients.</li></ul></div></body>
