AUSTIN, Texas — A 14-year-old girl has died following a shooting at an apartment complex in northeast Austin, according to police.
Austin police said calls came in of multiple shots fired in the area of The Bridge at Harris Ridge apartments on Howard Lane at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. When police arrived on the scene, they found a teen girl with head trauma who had been shot. She was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center, where she later died.
For Kelvin Davis, who lives at the apartment complex, it was a normal summer night relaxing on his balcony when he heard the gunshots.
"You see a car coming by and you see they started blasting many shots of guns, just shooting and shooting and shooting," Davis said. "I started shaking. I didn't know what to do."
KVUE spoke with another neighbor at the complex who declined to show her face or share her name on camera. Her daughter is a friend of Akira Ross, the 24-year-old who died on Friday after a shooting at a Cedar Park gas station.
"To see that baby laying there, that was just like, devastating of seeing a repeat of what happened last Friday when I got that phone call saying my daughter's friend had got killed," the neighbor said.
The neighbor is making a plea, not just as a resident but also as a mother.
"I just want them to stop the violence. I mean, it's too much. You're taking babies left and right, and they don't have the right to take nobody's life," she said.
Police said there were bullet holes in multiple cars at the scene, and a bullet had also gone through an apartment wall. KVUE crews on the scene observed shell casings throughout the complex's parking lot.
No one is in custody at this time.
