This year, the Texas Longhorns added one of the most highly-anticipated and highly-touted young quarterbacks in history when Arch Manning – the nephew of NFL legends Peyton Manning and Eli Manning – enrolled with the team in January, graduating early from high school. And it sounds like he’s already impressing his coaches.

This week, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked to provide an update on Arch Manning through his first few practices, and he had quite a promising assessment of the young star quarterback’s play so far when he revealed that Manning recently had “his best day.”

“I would say today was his best day,” Sarkisian said according to On3. “Which should happen. Hopefully we’ve learned from Week 1 with some of the things whether it’s the pace of play, whether it’s the system, whether it’s recognition of defense, whether it’s ball placement. Whatever that looks like. I thought today definitely was his best day.”

The Texas Longhorns return starting quarterback Quinn Ewers this season, who was also the top-rated quarterback in the country coming out of high school. As a result, it’s unlikely that Manning will earn the starting role as just a true freshman. But Sarkisian has made it clear that he will allow Manning to compete, so we’ll certainly have to see how it all shakes out.
