Aurora High School Honors Convocation
Aurora High School’s Class of 2024 celebrated in full May 8th for the district’s annual honors convocation. Seniors here posed displaying t-shirts indicative of their post-grad plans. Colleges and post-high school careers selected by the Huskies include Bryan College of Health Sciences, Capital Beauty School, Central Community College, Chadron State College, Concordia University, Creighton University, Doane University, Fort Hays State University, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Northeast Community College, Peru State College, South Dakota State University, Southeast Community College, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Wayne State College. The Huskies also have two students enlisting in the United States Army, one student enlisting in the United States Air Force, and one student attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The district’s four foreign exchange students were also recognized as well as four students who will be going directly to work upon graduation. Collectively, 52 students earned and accepted approximately 179 scholarships equalling more than $1.1 million. See this week's ANR to view photos of all the award winners.
Grand Island Police Department to take part in ‘Make It Click’ campaign
GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island Police Department will participate in the “Make It Click” campaign. The Grand Island Police Department was awarded $7,729.76 from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to be part of the statewide “Make It Click” high visibility enforcement campaign from May 20 – June 2, 2024.

Grand Island man arrested after failing to stop and render aid after auto accident
GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man was arrested after failing to stop and render aid following a two-vehicle accident during the evening of Saturday, May 11. According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a personal injury accident near 8th and Greenwich St., where a 1990 blue Jeep was flipped onto its side and a white Chevrolet Malibu was in a resident’s yard with damage to the driver’s side rear end.

Court of Appeals affirms York man's sentencing, conviction for murdering wife
YORK COUNTY, Neb. — The Nebraska Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction and sentencing of a York man charged with killing his wife last year. According to York County District Records Bart Beutler, 48, was sentenced last October to 60 to 80 years for 2nd-degree murder and 40 to 50 years on a weapons count that will be served consecutively.
