Whether it's for your dad, grandpa, or brother, Father's Day is on June 16 and it's a great day for celebrating the men in your life. So why not treat him to some messy ribs or spicy wings at a local barbecue restaurant?

But with a wide variety of options in the Augusta area, it may be hard to narrow down which option is best suited to your palate. Using total volume and ratings of user reviews, Yelp rankings can help you select some of the most popular options.

Here are the top five barbecue places in the Augusta area, according to Yelp:

    Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q

275 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Pkwy, Augusta

The Alabama-based barbecue chain opened in Augusta in December at the former site of Macaroni Grill. Pork and beef is slow-smoked at Jim 'N Nick's for 12 hours to be made into dishes like loaded mac and cheese and brisket sandwiches. Guests can dine in or take their food home via a drive-thru.

Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "We are obsessed with their burgers! I know ... a burger at a BBQ restaurant? Trust me. Their burger rivals most that are offered in Augusta. Highly recommended ordering 100+ of their cheese biscuits, which aren't really a biscuit in my opinion, but nonetheless they are profoundly delicious."

    Willie Jewell's Old School Bar-B-Q

    3512 River Watch Pkwy, Martinez

The Augusta-area location of Willie Jewell's opened in 2015 after kicking off in Charleston seven years prior. If you want to eat your fill, there are plenty of options like the half-pound burger topped with pulled pork and cheese, "Big Ol' Platters" featuring any two meats and sides, and several made-from-scratch sides.

Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "A great little place for lunch. Stopped here with some coworkers for lunch on a recommendation of a friend. Received prompt and friendly service. We ordered at the counter and got our food in less than 10 minutes. The pulled pork and brisket were both juicy and delicious."

    Goolsby's

    4460 Washington Rd, Evans

While Goolsby's has two locations in the area, its original in Columbia County is still the most popular. Fried pork loin and barbecue ribs are among the most popular entrees, and about 1,200 hoe cakes a day, according to proprietor Wilkes Goolsby. All of these and more are served cafeteria-style in a simplistic dining room.

Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "First of all, the staff here is amazing! So nice and helpful my kids could not stop talking about how great they were. Secondly, the food was just phenomenal and portions will leave you full and looking for a place to nap shortly after."

    BBQ Barn

    10298 Atomic Rd, North Augusta

What began as a side business in 2006 with Jody Glover and his wife, Susan, soon turned into a full-time restaurant after partnering with family friend Glenn Gentry Jr. Since then, it's become one of North Augusta's best, with the Boston butt being included among “The South’s Best Butts” by Southern Living in 2012.

Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "Delicious, warm, gracious. These are the words that come to mind when I think of BBQ Barn. I have now dined here three times. My first two visits were only 24 hours apart because it was so good."

    Perry's Pig

    1957 Old Savannah Rd, Augusta

A hidden gem off Gordon Highway, Perry's Pig offers delicious food in a modest home. It's famous for "Old Fashion BBQ" with favorites like chopped BBQ, turkey legs, a ton of hash, and ribs sold by the pound. However, Perry's is only open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., so be sure to plan accordingly.

Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "I love Perry's. It's been a staple ... since I was a child. The food is good and the service is fast. I have a lot of favorites but my favorite order is the BBQ sandwich with extra skins and mild sauce on the side. The mix of the crunchy skins and the softness of the shredded BBQ is like joy in your mouth."
