Bike Skills Park

In partnership with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, the City of Auburn celebrated June 3 the opening of the new Cedar Lanes Bike Skills Park with giveaways, free bike checks, helmet fittings, and on-site instructors guiding riders of all ages through three new biking skill zones.

The grand opening is part of a two-phase plan. A City release said that the first phase includes a drop zone with four drops of varying height and difficulty; “skinnies" (i.e., narrow obstacles for riders to practice bike handling and control); and jump and pump tracks featuring jumps, berms, and rollers.

Park planners said that the second phase of the park will introduce a flow track, which is a single dirt path that will wind and flow through the park. Once the second phase is finished, the park also will host an asphalt pump track, restrooms, and a picnic shelter.

In addition to the permanent bike trails and features, summer programming is available for youth and includes summer camps, field trips, and twice-weekly (and free) Summer Ride programs.

The Summer Ride program includes drop-in instruction and activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. July 11-Aug. 17. The program is open to youth of all ages and is sponsored in partnership with Cycle Therapy Racing. Bikes and helmets will be available for checkout during Summer Ride hours.
