Now that spring practices have come to a close, teams are turning toward the summer, and college football fans are starting to get a better idea of what each program will look like entering the season.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze joined Paul Finebaum to discuss the expectations next season for the Tigers after a mediocre first season on the Plains.

"I’m confident that we’re gonna be better. It’s really hard for me to say what does that look like in the win-loss column with this conference because it’s so difficult to win games."

"But I do know that we really did well in the ’24 recruiting cycle, and we had 18 of those guys on campus in spring ball, and I’m real excited about their future. Now, how quickly can they translate into this lease as freshmen? I don’t know, we’ll see. But I know that we’ve made ourselves better.”

Finebaum questioned Freeze about the high expectations from the fans, which is a major factor throughout the SEC each season.

“Probably 50/50, on year two with how they would judge that. If you’re not ok with that, you probably don’t need to be at this conference. I think our administration knows where we were. I think they see what we’ve done and what we’re doing, and we’re already recruiting really well in the ’25 cycle, but it takes time to build. Now the big question is, ‘Does my way work?’."

"And my way is I’m going to recruit high school kids, and obviously, you’ve gotta go to the portal some, but I didn’t chase a lot of portal guys in December. Now, this following December, when all those top guys I signed get all those calls, do relationships still matter, and will it stand the test of the storm when it comes? I don’t know the answer to that yet.”

Auburn will kick off the 2024 season against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
