ChatGPT predicts Auburn football's 2023 schedule
By Lance Dawe,2023-06-08
We have asked AI to predict Hugh Freeze's first season on the Plains.
Most outlets out there have the Tigers going a modest 7-5 or 6-6 in 2023, not expecting the haul of transfer portal additions to help Auburn exceed past the six win threshold Bryan Harsin could not.
However, ChatGPT is a little higher on Auburn.
ChatGPT's knowledge of current events cuts off December of 2021, so getting it to make a prediction for a schedule happening in 2023 was a wee difficult.
Straight up, it did not want to.
So, I provided it detailed context around every team the Tigers are facing this season and it thankfully gave me a "hypothetical prediction" of each game.
It really wanted to emphasize the word hypothetical. It ended up doing a pretty good job of predicting the games and shared some final scores.
Here is what ChatGPT thinks about Auburn football's 2023 schedule:
Sept. 2nd vs UMass - W (1-0)
Hypothetical score: 38-14
Sept. 9th at California - W (2-0)
Hypothetical score: 34-21
Sept. 16th vs Samford - W (3-0)
Hypothetical score: 42-10
Sept. 23rd at Texas A&M - L (3-1, 0-1 SEC)
"This could be a tough game. Hypothetically, let's say a close loss."
Hypothetical score: 24-28
Sept. 30th vs Georgia - L (3-2, 0-2 SEC)
Hypothetical score: 20-35
Oct. 14th at LSU - W (4-2, 1-2 SEC)
"LSU is a strong team, but it could go either way."
Hypothetical score: 28-24
Oct. 21st vs Ole Miss - W (5-2, 2-2 SEC)
Hypothetical score: 35-21
Oct. 28th vs Mississippi State - W (6-2, 3-2 SEC)
Hypothetical score: 33-20
Nov. 4th at Vanderbilt - W (7-2, 4-2 SEC)
Auburn win. Hypothetical score: 38-17
Nov. 11th at Arkansas - W (8-2, 5-2 SEC)
"This could be a tough game as well. Hypothetically, let's say a close win."
Hypothetical score: 30-27
Nov. 18th vs New Mexico State - W (9-2, 5-2 SEC)
Hypothetical score: 45-13
Nov. 25th vs Alabama - L (9-3, 5-3 SEC)
"This is the Iron Bowl and it's always unpredictable. For the sake of being hypothetical, let's say a close loss."
Hypothetical score: 27-30
