Latino Family Festival and Light Show

4-10 p.m. Saturday, 3:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11-12. Admission is $19.99 ages 3 and up for light show and festival only. Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd., Stone Mountain.

For the second year in a row, Stone Mountain Park hosts a Latino Family Festival complete with Aztec and Flamenco dancers, stilt walkers, a parade, and food trucks.

This is a great chance to celebrate your heritage or learn about Latino traditions. The drone and light show is dramatic and beautiful and the kids will appreciate an opportunity to have fun after dark.

Forest Restoration in the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill

9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 11. Free to participate. Browns Mill Park Urban Food Forest, 2217 Browns Mill Rd, Atlanta.

Active kids who are at least 12 years old can assist Trees Atlanta in its quest to support native plants and a sustainable forest at Browns Mill.

Bending, pulling, and kneeling are required for this community-support volunteer effort. Adults and teens who love grubbing about will find a like-minded community here. Be sure to bring work gloves and wear good shoes and protective clothing.

Freedom Farmers Market at the Carter Center

8:30 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 11. Free entry. Carter Center Library, 453 Freedom Pkwy NE, Atlanta.

If you’d like to eat more seasonal food and support local farmers, plan a trip to the Freedom Farmers Market at the Carter Center any Saturday.

You’ll find a bevy of organic and sustainable local products there, from cheese to luscious baked goods and a lavish variety of fresh produce. The live music and featured chef demos are a bonus. And you can plan your evening meal around the purchases you make to extend the fun and family bonding.

Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade

Noon-7 p.m., Saturday, May 11 lantern-making workshop for kids, 352 University Ave. SW, Atlanta. 7:45-10 p.m. parade starting at Adair Park, 742 Catherine St. SW, Atlanta.

Warm breezes and luminous lanterns will mesmerize all ages, and the 14th annual Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade also allows you to participate if you like.

Kids can prepare a lantern from 12-7 p.m. at a workshop hosted by Pittsburgh Community Market and the Happy Black Parent and march in their own parade around Pittsburgh Yards and party of the Atlanta Beltline at 6 p.m.

The main parade is led by the zany, magical Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons and features multiple live bands, including the Atlanta Drum Academy.

If you possess a lantern, you can walk in the parade, and all ages can watch and dance like no one is watching along the parade route. Make this a family tradition and bring cameras and charged phones for great photos.
