Jovita Moore’s daughter gives family update before 1st annual Brain Tumor Walk & Race in her honor

(ATLANTA, Ga.) — Ahead of the first annual Georgia Brain Tumor Walk & Race, which kicks off tomorrow morning at the Battery, we’re catching up with Jovita Moore’s family. The beloved Channel 2 Action News Anchor died after a brave fight with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2021.

On Friday, Channel 2′s Berndt Peterson talked to Jovita’s youngest daughter, Shelby Griffith, who is currently attending the University of Miami.

Shelby said her mom would be very proud of the race, which was organized after the support the organization received in the wake of Jovita’s death.

“It always warms my heart to see the city of Atlanta continue to love and honor my mother,” Shelby told Peterson over the phone.

Shelby is now 21. Her brother, Joshua, is 17. Shelby and Joshua’s sister, Lauren, is 27 and a mother herself.

Jovita’s family continues to take part in many events to help local charities, a value they say their mother instilled in them. They are also busy growing up. Shelby said she’s studying for the LSAT this summer as she gets ready to apply to law school next year.

“My sister is doing well in her life. She has her little daughter, so she puts a lot of time into her daughter,” Shelby said. “My brother is a rising senior in high school. He has a passion for basketball, so he’ll focus on basketball and getting ready for his final year of high school this summer.”

Shelby said the love that so many people continue to have for her mom, and their participation in worthy causes like this one, mean so much to her family.

“I want to give a big thank you to all who will attend this Saturday.  It means so much that she was able to touch so many hearts in such a big way,” Shelby said.

She said her heart will be with those who gather at the starting line Saturday in hopes of raising money for brain cancer research.
