ATLANTA — Just over a week after a crane partially collapsed on top of a midtown Atlanta building, residents are being allowed back into their homes.
Fire officials confirm to Channel 2 Action News that the evacuation order for the Tens on West Apartments was lifted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Approximately 1,000 people who live in the apartment complex were forced out of their homes as crews worked to dismantle the crane. They were allowed to retrieve some of their essentials, but had not been able to return since then.
Four people were injured in the collapse. All are expected to make a full recovery.
According to officials, part of the counterbalance of the crane fell off and badly damaged two floors of the building below. Debris also damaged a car.
The collapse forced officials to shut down West Peachtree from 10th to 11th streets and Spring Street from 10th to 12th. Those roads have since reopened as well.
